Do you hold a return ticket for your trip?

You must hold a return travel ticket to be eligible for cover. Separate one way bookings departing from and returning to New Zealand are considered to be return travel tickets, even if they are booked separately.

This is the date you are scheduled to depart from New Zealand. If you are traveling domestically prior to your international departure, do not include domestic travel days.

Date of return

This is the date you are scheduled to arrive in New Zealand, not the date you board your flight. If you are traveling domestically following your arrival in New Zealand, do not include domestic travel days. Ensure you consider time differences/zones and travel times as you might land on a different date to when you boarded your international flight.

This policy provides cover for cardholders intending to return to New Zealand at the conclusion of their travel. If you do not hold New Zealand citizenship or Permanent Resident status then we may not be able to assist with medical evacuation in the event of a medical emergency overseas. In the event that you cannot return to New Zealand to continue receiving treatment due to your residency status then cover under the policy may no longer be available. If you are unsure about your residency status, please seek independent advice. We cannot provide any advice relating to your residency status.

Spouse means :

• your Spouse or de facto partner with whom you have continuously cohabited for a period of three (3) consecutive months or more immediately preceding the commencement of a Covered Trip.

Accompanying means travelling together with the platinum cardholder on a covered trip and generally on the same itinerary. This means departing and returning with the platinum cardholder but allowing for a difference in itineraries of the lesser of than five nights or 20% of the covered trip.

Dependent Child(ren) means, each person who:
1. Is your natural, step, or legally adopted child; and
2. Is unmarried and not living in a relationship equivalent to marriage; and
a) Is under the age of 19 years at the date of departure for a covered trip; or
b) Is under the age of 25 and is a full-time student who is currently enrolled, or is enrolled in the next academic term or semester, and who is primarily dependent on the platinum cardholder for maintenance and support.

to whom the ASB Visa Platinum Rewards Cardholder is legally married; or

Policy Customisation

Do you need cover for high value personal items (excluding bicycles and sporting goods)?

Cover for any item, pair or set of items is subject to a limit of $3,000 (except for laptop computers (inclusive of all accessories), which is $6,000). Information about high value items can be found here.

Include make or model information if available. You will be required to supply proof of ownership and valuation of the item in the event of a claim. Note that sporting equipment cannot be covered as high value items.

Does your trip include a multi-night cruise? If any part of your travel itinerary includes a multi-night cruise, you will have no cover for any part of your overseas travel, unless you purchase ‘Cruise Cover’ before departure.

Multi-night cruise means:

Travelling as a passenger for two or more nights, inclusive of port stops and cruise excursions, aboard a commercially registered cruise ship which during your trip:

a) Visits at least one Overseas port; and

b) Sails on any of a river, in a harbour, on an ocean or at sea.

A Cruise does not include any private or chartered yachting or boating.

You should enter the amount payable to the cruise provider that is required to sail and not just the deposits you have paid to-date. Only include the amount paid for you, and your accompanying spouse and / or dependent children. If you are sharing a cabin with anyone who will not be insured by your policy, you do not need to include their proportion of the cost, as they will not be covered should you have a claim.
